Fair Trade is about fair prices. It’s about eliminating exploitative middlemen and sharing more of a product’s value with the people who made it. Fair Trade is about being good stewards of the planet God gave us. And it can be a lot more.
In CRS’ Fair Trade program, we embrace the idea of Fair Trade as a partnership between producers and consumers. Fair Trade “contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers ….” U.S. Catholics and others of good will have a special role to play in making trade fair and sustainable. This website is designed to help you pray, learn, act, give (and receive!) in solidarity with artisans and farmers around the world.
What Economic Justice Looks Like
“The economy should work for people, and not the other way around.”
–Economic Justice for All, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
From our U.S. Bishops to Pope Benedict in his recent encyclical “Charity in Truth,” Catholic social teaching is filled with guidance on how people of faith can transform the world through acts of economic justice. In your heart, in your home, in your place of work or worship, as well as in the wider world, CRS Fair Trade is here to help you make decisions that help transform lives for the better. Together we can create an economy for everyone!
